Al Hartman (Allen R. Hartman) is the Executive Chairman of our board of directors and founder of the parent company of our Advisor, Hartman Advisors LLC, and our property manager, HIR Management.
In 1984, Mr. Hartman formed Hartman Management and began sponsoring private real estate investment programs. Over the next 24 years, Mr. Hartman built Hartman Management into one of the leading commercial property management firms in the state of Texas and sponsored 20 privately offered programs and one publicly offered program that invested in commercial real estate in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas, Texas.
Gerald Haddock is the president and founder of Haddock Investments. In 2000, Mr. Haddock decided to use his more than 30 years of financial, real estate, oil and gas, and legal experience in order to form his own company, Haddock Enterprises, LLC, and focus on private equity and commercial real estate investments.
Prior to forming Haddock Enterprises, Mr. Haddock served as president and chief executive officer of Crescent Real Estate Equities, a diversified real estate investment trust. As Co-founder, CEO and COO, they acquired commercial office projects throughout downtown Dallas and Houston and went public in 1994.
In addition to his role as president of Haddock Investments, Gerald Haddock serves on numerous for-profit and not-for-profit boards, including the board for Meritage Homes Corporation, the Board of Trustees for the Baylor College of Medicine, the Baylor University Executive Investment Committee, and several others.
Mr. Haddock has his BBA from Baylor University, JD from Baylor University School of Law, LLM from New York University School of Law, and MBA from Dallas Baptist University.
Jack Tompkins has served since 1998 as Chairman and CEO of ARTA Equity Advisors, L.L.C., engaging in various entrepreneurial opportunities. Mr. Tompkins began his career with Arthur Young & Co., working as a certified public accountant for three years before joining Arthur Andersen, L.L.P., where he was elected to the partnership in 1981 and served until 1988.
From 1988 until October 1996, Mr. Tompkins served as Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President and Chief Information, Administrative & Accounting Officer of a large publicly traded energy company. Mr. Tompkins served as a Chairman and CEO of Automotive Realty Trust Company of America from its inception in 1997 until its sale to a publicly traded REIT in January 1999. From March to September of 1999, Mr. Tompkins served as interim Executive Vice President and CFO of Crescent Real Estate Equities.
Horst H. Schulze is the Chairman Emeritus of Capella Hotel Group, and CEO / President of WP Hospitality Group, is a legend and leader in the service world. His vision has helped reshape concepts of customer service throughout the hospitality and service industries.
In 1991, Mr. Schulze was recognized as “corporate hotelier of the world” by HOTELS Magazine. In 1995, he was awarded the Ishikawa Medal for his personal contributions to the quality movement. In 1999, Johnson & Wales University gave him an honorary Doctorate of Business Administration degree in Hospitality Management. Most recently, Mr. Schulze has been honored as a “Leader in Luxury” by Travel Agent Magazine and its sister publication Luxury Travel Advisor.
Mr. Schulze served as one of the founders of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. Under his leadership, the group was awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in both 1992 and 1999— the first and only hotel company to win even one such award. In addition, Ritz-Carlton was continuously voted “best hotel company in the world” by meeting and other trade publications.
Upon joining Ritz-Carlton as a charter member in charge of Operations in 1983, Mr. Schulze created the operating and service standards that have become world famous. When he left Ritz-Carlton to form The Capella Hotel Group, Mr. Schulze was responsible for the $2 billion Ritz-Carlton operations worldwide.
Prior to his long tenure with Ritz-Carlton, Mr. Schulze spent nine years with Hyatt Hotels Corporation, where he was a hotel General Manager, Regional VP and Corporate VP. Before his association with Hyatt, he worked for Hilton Hotels.
After spending the early years of his career in the mergers and acquisitions at Bell Atlantic Corporation, Jim became President and privately held real estate companies in the mid-Atlantic region. Jim engineered a management buyout of the company in transitioning to a privately held real estate investment trust, renamed Atlantic American Properties Trust. The MBO was described by the Wall Street Journal as the largest management buyout of a commercial real estate company in the United States in the 1990s.
After integrating another private company, Commonwealth Atlantic Properties, Atlantic American Properties Trust was ultimately sold to a public entity in the late 1990s. Jim has spent his career post-Atlantic American Properties Trust as both an advisor to business enterprises as well as serving as Chief Executive Officer of three companies.
He was interim CEO of GovXcel, a leading provider of software to government agencies, and then CEO of Thompson Media Group in Washington, DC. Thompson Media Group was a leading business-to-business content provider. Jim’s most recent CEO assignment was at Surgent, a leading national provider of continuing education to the CPA sector.
Jim is a graduate of Amherst College and received his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
